✓ checked Oct 29

Verified students at more than 170 universities in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand get 1,000 Kiro credits a month free for one year. That is the same monthly allowance as the paid Kiro Pro plan. You verify through SheerID with your university email, and no credit card is needed.

How to claim it

  1. Check your school. Find your university in the list on the Kiro for students page. Not listed? Request it there with your university email
  2. Sign in to Kiro. Sign up or log in with a personal Google, GitHub or AWS Builder ID account. It does not have to use your university email. The "Your organization" sign-in option does not work for the student program
  3. Open Students in Settings. Go to Settings, open the Students section and pick your university from the dropdown
  4. Verify with SheerID. Click verify and enter your name, date of birth and university email. SheerID may also ask for a student ID or enrollment letter
  5. Start building. Once verified, your plan shows as Kiro Students and you get 1,000 credits a month for 12 months. No credit card required

Who's eligible

Who can get the Kiro student discount?
Students aged 18+ who are currently enrolled at a participating university. Your Kiro account can use any personal email, but you need your university email for SheerID verification. Kiro lists more than 170 schools, including MIT, Carnegie Mellon, UCLA, the University of Toronto, Imperial College London, ETH Zurich, TU Munich, the National University of Singapore, Seoul National University and the University of São Paulo.
How long does Kiro student access last?
One year from verification. Kiro adds 1,000 credits to your account each month for 12 months, as long as you stay eligible. After that, your account moves to the Kiro Free tier (50 credits a month), and you keep your code, specs and projects.
Is the Kiro student discount available worldwide?
It depends on your school, not your country. Kiro launched the offer with 11 universities in the US and Canada and now lists schools in the US and Canada; Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Chile; the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, France, Romania and Hungary; Singapore, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Indonesia; and Australia and New Zealand. If your school is missing, you can request it on Kiro's student page.

You sign in with a personal Google, GitHub or AWS Builder ID account, then verify through SheerID with your university email. Academic integrity

📘Check your school's AI coding policy
Kiro is an agentic coding tool that can generate and edit code across whole projects. Many CS programs restrict AI assistants on graded work, especially in intro courses where the goal is learning fundamentals. Read your syllabus before using it on assignments.
🎯Use specs to learn, not just to ship
Kiro's spec-driven workflow lays out requirements, a design and tasks before any code is written. Review that plan step by step to practice breaking a problem down yourself, instead of accepting whatever the agent produces.

Fine print & gotchas

  • Participating universities only. Kiro lists 170+ schools, yours must be on the list, and you must be 18+.
  • One benefit per student. Enter your details accurately, since wrong information can delay or block verification.
  • No rollover, no add-on credits. Unused credits expire each month, and you cannot buy more during the program.
  • Moves to the Free tier (50 credits/mo) automatically after 12 months.

Common questions

Who is eligible?
Students aged 18+ who are currently enrolled at a participating university. Kiro lists more than 170 schools in North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand on its student page.
Do I need to sign up with my university email?
No. Your Kiro account can use a personal Google, GitHub or AWS Builder ID login. You give your university email to SheerID during verification. The "Your organization" sign-in option is not supported for the student program.
What do I get exactly?
1,000 Kiro credits a month for 12 months, the same monthly credits as the paid Kiro Pro plan ($20/month). You can use them in the Kiro IDE, CLI, Kiro Web and Kiro Crew, and you get the models from Kiro's paid plans, including premium models.
Is there a Kiro promo code for students?
No code is needed. Students get the offer by verifying through SheerID from their Kiro account. Separately, since November 1, 2026, anyone upgrading from the Kiro Free tier to Pro for the first time gets the rest of that month free plus 500 trial credits that last 12 months.
What happens after the 12 months?
Your account moves to the Kiro Free tier, which includes 50 credits a month. You do not lose your work, and you can upgrade to a paid plan at any time.
Do unused credits roll over?
No. Credits reset each month and do not carry over. You also cannot buy add-on credits during the program, so once you hit 1,000 credits in a month you wait for the next reset.
How does verification work?
You start it from the Students section in Kiro's Settings. SheerID asks for your first name, last name, date of birth, university and university email, and checks them against academic databases. Sometimes it also asks you to upload a student ID or enrollment letter. Each student can get the benefit once.
My school is on the list but not in the dropdown. What now?
Kiro asks you to contact them on the Kiro Discord server. If your school is not on the list at all, it is not supported yet, and the dropdown will not show it.
My school is not on the list. Can I still apply?
Not yet. Kiro says it will add more universities soon, and you can request yours by entering your university email in the "Don't see your school listed?" form on Kiro's student page. Meanwhile, the Kiro Free tier gives everyone 50 credits a month.
